WAUZINE's Digital Showcase Shines a Light on Kenya's Emerging Designers
Titled “KUTOKA NAIROBI,” which translates to “From Nairobi” in Swahili.
WAUZINE‘s fourth issue marks the debut of an exclusive digital showcase, spotlighting 20 emerging designers from Kenya.
Titled “KUTOKA NAIROBI,” which translates to “From Nairobi” in Swahili, the showcase aims to explore the “compelling narrative of identity” and its complex relationship with the environments around it. Celebrating the city of Nairobi and its rich traditional heritage, the curated offering gives voice to the talented creatives that reside in it.
Spearheaded by Iona McCreath of KikoRomeo, who acts as the issue’s creative director, stylist and features editor, this iteration of WAUZINE draws from her passion for the power of identity and belonging alongside the “transformative impact” of Nairobi as a city on the people who encounter it.
Lensed by photographer Rogers Ouma, the collection of creative works aims to spotlight and celebrate a flourishing fashion ecosystem, giving voice to underrepresented talents currently thriving in Kenya and showcasing their sustainability prowess and consideration for their environment.
