Bad Bunny Has a Word for People Accusing Him of Queer Baiting...
The musician shares a response to “endless” amounts of homophobia.
As Bisexual Awareness Week looms and a new queer NSFW scene of his releases, Puerto Rican musician, Bad Bunny faces queer baiting allegations and he has a word to share.
It’s no secret that Bad Bunny loves tapping into his gender-bending bag, but some fans are not here for it. Unfortunately, the disdain for his fluidity has forced the artist to face an “endless” amount of homophobia and in a newly released Vanity Fair interview, he reveals how he truly feels.
“You don’t know the reasons why a person is wearing that,” he said. “You weren’t in his mind when he decided to put on a skirt or a blouse. You don’t know what’s inside him, what’s in his heart. You do it because you want to and it makes you feel good and it makes you feel happy,” he spoke of his love for fashion and experimentation. ”Maybe the queer person suffers more, but it is not like I put on a skirt and go out and they say ‘Look, how cool.’ According to him, there’s no way to win, even if his goal is to remain autnethic. “They’re going to attack me with all their force anyway.”
Queer baiting has become a highly controversial topic amongst people of all identities as it appears to be progressive but is merely a trap to hook queer audiences without actually being progressive. In the case of Bad Bunny, he’s currently Kar-Jenner clan member Kendall Jenner and has never been pictured out with anyone queer, causing the public to question his intentions. But on the flip side, what makes any of us the authority on Bad Bunny’s sexuality?
Singer Harry Styles is yet another musician who has been accused of queer baiting, most notably his iconic MET Gala look to his role in My Policeman. “I’m not dragging Harry Styles, but… He doesn’t care, he’s just doing it because it’s the thing to do. This is politics for me. This is my life,” actor Billy Porter said of him at the time. However, Porter circled back with an apology on live TV, citing “systems of oppression and erasure of people of colour,” as the reason for being angry.
