Is Your Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet “Hot Take" Sexist?
“What do they do together? Does he hold her makeup brushes while she contours?”
As news broke of Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet making out at Beyoncé’s L.A. Renaissance show, fans who questioned the relationship doubled down in their confusion. But could their hot takes be problematic?
“Timothée Chalamet seemed to be such an intellectual and instead, he simply likes big boobs,” one Twitter user said about the confirmed relationship. One Vogue contributor wrote: ”What do they do together? Does he hold her makeup brushes while she contours? Does she help him sift through Wes Anderson scripts? Does he give Stormi French lessons?
Where some are fuming and feel completely validated for their hot takes — literally, people are deleting their social media over this — others find these opinions extremely sexist.
In fact, shortly thereafter, the Vogue article was deemed sexist, resulting in its removal. The Independent writer Olivia Petter has boiled down these hot takes into one question: “Why are we assuming Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet are intellectually incompatible?” In her opinion, the commentary belittles Jenner’s accomplishments and reduces her to a reality TV star, as if she isn’t a brand and mogul. When fans weigh Chalamet’s “A-list” standing that has welcomed him to iconic red carpets such as the Venice Film Festival, it seems the two don’t compare for fans.
Is intellectual compatibility the only need for a healthy relationship? According to her: no. Relationships factor in many things such as sexuality, political beliefs, community, career and also, intellectual compatibility. So reducing the two to “makeup brushes” is not only reductive but sexist as f-ck.
It’s no secret that for many, the Kar-Jenner clan is hard to like, from discussions of race to Kris Jenner’s avid love for a PR relationship. However, like many are arguing, sexism is never okay and sets us all back as femmes.
In other news, great d-ck inspired Troye Sivan’s upcoming album.
