What Lyst's Hottest Items List Tells Us About FW24's Biggest Trends
From biker boots to suede bags, here’s what’s worth adding to basket this season.
The Lyst Index is back for another quarter, sharing the latest data on our favorite fashion items and hottest brands. As always, the Index features some of fashion’s biggest releases, with previous lists including viral items like Uniqlo‘s crossbody bag, Birkenstock‘s Boston clogs and Prada‘s triangle logo tank top. Often a mixture of luxury items and affordable pieces, the list is a powerful indicator of the wider shifts in fashion trends and our buying habits.
For example, Q2’s list signaled a subtle shift towards more traditional sportswear-style shoes, noting Dries Van Noten‘s narrow suede sneaker and On‘s classic CloudTilt as two of the hottest items to buy — quite a departure from the chunky, dad-inspired sneaker we loved in 2022.
Similarly, the latest report confirms that Aviator glasses are the most popular style of the moment, marking a pretty big shift from the oval and cat-eye-shaped frames that featured in the list in 2022 and 2024.
Read on for more on the biggest FW24 trends, as evidenced by Lyst’s Q3 Hottest Items list.
Suede Bags Are Back
This quarter’s report sees three bags in its ‘hottest items’ list, two of which are suede silhouettes. Featuring Coach‘s suede Brooklyn bag and Miu Miu‘s Arcade, it appears that brown-toned suede is the most popular choice for bags this season, also evidenced by releases from Baum und Pferdgarten and Reformation.
The Dad Sneaker Is Dead
It’s been a while since the last dad-inspired sneaker made its way into Lyst’s Hottest Items, with Aime Leon Dore‘s New Balance sneaker claiming that spot in Q2 2023. Since then, we’ve evolved toward more narrow silhouettes, inspired by sports shoes like cleats, football boots and even ballet flats. Most notably, PUMA’s new and improved Speedcat has made it into this quarter’s list, becoming one of the most popular footwear silhouettes since the Samba.
Aviator Shades Are the Only Shape That Matters
Tom Ford‘s Bronson glasses are the only pair of eyewear in Lyst’s Q3 list, confirming that the chunky, Aviator-style shape is the only one that matters this season. The rise in popularity of the Aviator shape is proof that our rectangular frame days are officially over and we’re ready to embrace a bolder, less subtle silhouette.
Biker Boots Are FW24’s Most Popular Shoe
As we approach the colder and wetter weather, rain-proof boots are beginning to make a welcome appearance. This quarter’s list featured Ganni‘s classic Biker boots, which seem to be a rising style among fashion fans. Similarly, Dr. Martens‘ newest Anistone boot recently went viral on TikTok with its “Charcoal” colorway, now followed by an all-black release.
The Country Is Cool Again
Toteme’s “Country Jacket” comes in at number five on the list, signaling a growing relationship with the outdoors and its “Country Club” dressing aesthetic. Recent releases like Sporty & Rich‘s “Equestrian” drop and House of Sunny‘s “Country Club” collection confirm that shift, favoring traditional styles like flannel shirts, wellington boots and camel-toned jackets.
