Zendaya Speaks on 'Challengers' Sex Scenes
Turns out, a three-way kiss is harder to film than you’d think.
When news broke of the Challengers film in 2023, fans lost their sh-t over the prospect of Zendaya in a throuple. Shortly thereafter, the love triangles steamy sex scenes broke the internet and according to Zendaya, it took a village.
“We had to do it in one shot,” she explained. “So that was like, ‘Okay, you have to say this line, the camera’s got to go here, and if we mess up, we got to start over again.’”
What’s the big deal you might ask? The film – spoiler alert – features all three cast members, Zendaya, Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor, sharing a three-way kiss. ”It’s very intentional and thought through with the help of everyone. It’s such a community of people that make this one shot happen. It’s like we [actors] are just a small part of it, ultimately.”

Despite being in theaters for one weekend, fans are eating it up — the film, not just the sex scenes. One fan wrote, “Honestly Tashi in Challengers (2024) is my favorite Zendaya role/performance so far.” Another shared, “It’s fun to play in worlds that aren’t necessarily your own. this world is supposedly so perfect; it was fun to play pretend in it.”
As Zendaya shared, in the film, tennis “holds a metaphor for a lot of things — for desires, passion, pain, anger, frustration,” and ultimately exceeded expectations.
