“What do you think about rebound sex? Is it always a bad idea?”
Hey bae! As much as we love pleasure around these parts — rebound sex can be very complicated. Breakups are tough and it’s normal to crave comfort. But it’s important to be intentional about how you receive that comfort. For example, you might think a distraction will be beneficial, only to find that you can’t stop thinking about your ex during sex. Or there’s the age-old tale of calling someone your ex’s name during sex. The point is that rebound sex can be messy, so let’s dive into a few guidelines that can make it less disastrous.
First, make sure you communicate your needs honestly. This will avoid accidentally leading someone on. For example, “I’m fresh out of a relationship, so I’m just hoping for something more casual and pleasurable now.” As always when communicating your truth, it might not resonate with everyone so it’s important to leave situations that don’t align.
Next, there’s a chance rebound sex will make you feel worse. Have a plan in place if this happens. A self-care day paired with solo sex might do the trick or maybe an honest journal session about why rebound sex is not the move for you emotionally.
Lastly, and this one’s important, make sure you’re not dabbling in rebound sex just to make someone upset. Revenge sex always backfires so save yourself the time!
Best of luck, bae!
