Pharrell Williams' LVERS Fragrance Is *So* Bae-Coded

“What will you do when the sun shines on you?”

Pharrell Williams‘ latest Louis Vuitton showcase at Paris Fashion Week had a major drop – and it had nothing to do with the clothes on show. It was the debut of the LVERS fragrance

His first fragrance for Vuitton, created in collaboration with master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud and Camille Cavallier Belletrud, is extremely bae-coded. The trio set out on a daring mission to encapsulate the very essence of the sun, a task many believed to be beyond reach. The result? An extraction of energy through a soothing perfume of opportunity and enhancement.

“The theme of sunlight that lit up Pharrell’s debut show on Pont Neuf in June 2023 inspired us to convey photosynthesis in scent,” explains the master perfumer in the press release. “It may sound abstract, but if you look at life, photosynthesis is the starting point for everything.” As you’d expect, LVERS is as unique as it is desirable and transcends both gender and age.

Meticulously crafted in the Louis Vuitton creative atelier at Les Fontaines Parfumées in Grasse, France, the elusive scent has an unlikely main ingredient: Galbanum. The woody, green note is derived from gum resin, extracted from an Iranian plant. At the base cedarwood oil melds with sandalwood, before being spiced up with fresh ginger and finished off with a zesty top note of bergamot. (Each ingredient, coincidentally, is connected to age-old cultural practices connected with notions of healing, renewal and wellbeing, making it an elixir of sorts, too.)

The bottle also pays tribute to the sun: reflecting, refracting and imitating sunlight with its prismatic design. Additionally, a travel case and fragrance trunk, which holds three bottles, are crafted in Williams’ signature camouflage-meets-Damoflage motif.

Retailing for $320 USD, the perfume is available on the Louis Vuitton site.
