Is Gen Z in Its #Tradwife Era?
From PinkPantheress to Nara Smith, it seems tradition is the latest trend…
Feeld dating app and Dr. Justin Lehmiller from the Kinsey Institute release the “State of Dating” Report.
If you ask any generation, it seems like Gen Z is the most unserious generation ever. But if you’re actually paying attention, Gen Z is proudly evolving when it comes to sex and relationships. From eating up Nara Smith’s #tradwife content to questioning polyamory, there are seemingly no bounds to our exploration.
According to the “State of Dating” report, “A current trend among Gen Z is the romanticization
of traditional relationships and roles. There is a certain appeal to ‘how things used to be’ in the sense that they just seemed simpler.” They’re also ”exploring their gender and sexuality at
much higher rates than any past or current generation.”
Surprisingly, Gen Z “is nearly twice as likely to say that they have frequent fantasies about monogamy than older generations.” This is ironic given just last year, discussing polyamory became a trend amongst influencers and brands.
As the report surfaced, Gen Z singer PinkPantheress hit the cover of The Cut. In the interview, she shared that she’s a romantic preferring traditional love. “I’m very traditional… I really like the idea of just being in a nice house. Or not even a nice house, a cottage — with a husband and kids.”
However, as revealed in eharmony’s “New Leading Man” report, men are having a hard time adjusting. While women are exploring tradition and eating up content that allows them to vicariously explore, men are feeling pressured by women’s seemingly limited perceptions of masculinity. The problem? Some Gen Z women are embracing tradition, while some men are finally giving toxic masculinity the boot.
Naturally, this calls for an even more chaotic dating pool so as a Sex & Dating Editor, I’m dying to see how this plays out.
