Charli XCX Ends “party 4 u” Debates With New Music Video
Following the song’s viral resurgence on TikTok.
Five years post-release, Charli XCX‘s “party 4 u” trends on TikTok, encouraging the British singer to give the song its flowers.
“It took 5 years for them to get it,” a fan commented under the Brat singer’s announcement that “party 4 u” earned its own music video. Although the song went viral, no one truly knew what it meant — that was until their favorite joined the conversation and revealed its meaning.
“This is actually the moment you realize that one person isn’t every coming to your party so you stand in the middle of the room, tears briefly fill your eyes but then you wipe them away, pretend you’re ok and proceed to get unbelievably f-cked up and then spend the next week feeling completely ashamed of yourself,” she stated in a TikTok video. Just a month after teasing the song’s meaning, she thanked her fanbase for keeping her 2020 album, How I’m Feeling Now, front of mind.
The music video elaborates on that yearning and desperate feeling of craving a lover. Taking place at the end of the party — where he never showed — Charli XCX sings “I only threw this party for you.”
