Here's How Bella Hadid Achieved Her New Blonde Hair, Straight From Her Colorist

The supermodel debuted a lighter, “luxury honey” look at the Cannes Film Festival.

Bella Hadid just went blonde and she picked the 78th Annual Cannes Film Festival to premiere her new look. Marking her first public appearance in months, she stepped out with a soft, honey-toned blowout — a switch-up from her usual brunette hair.

Hadid, who walked the red carpet for the French film Partir Un Jour for the first day of the festival (which recently banned clothing that showed nudity and longer dress trains), stunned paparazzi and fans alike. She paired the look with a peek-a-boo black gown from Saint Laurent and emerald Chopard jewelry. Her makeup featured her signature black eyeliner and a ’90s-inspired lip liner and lipstick combination.

This isn’t Hadid’s first foray into the lighter side of hair color, though. Over the years, she’s experimented with a variety of blonde hues — from a warm caramel tone to face-framing highlights and even a shade that stylists dubbed “Aspen Blonde” in 2022. However, her latest look seems to be her most dramatic transformation yet.

Her colorist and Olaplex ambassador, Jacob Schwartz, gave Hypebae the low down on why this was the ideal time to try a new kind of glam. “Bella attends Cannes every year, so it was the perfect moment to do something major. Going from a brunette to a blonde is major. She’s a natural blonde, so sourcing photos of her as a child was a great reference. Using those images and her skin tone led us to this epic, luxurious honey hue.”

Schwartz used Olaplex’s “No.1” in his bleach formula and “No.2” in between each processing step. “Proper planning, product and patience are the three things that I rely on most to always deliver. I always use [these two products] when lifting to blonde to ensure a solid, healthy foundation. Post-color, her hair didn’t have breakage. It was incredibly healthy, allowing me to style her hair for the red carpet with ease.”

Finally in France, Hadid and her team could see every part of the puzzle put together. “Bella tried on her look for the first time — the blonde perfectly complemented the dress and all the stunning Chopard jewels. Pairing both the premiere of her color change to blonde with an actual film premiere was the perfect fit.”
