Graffiti Legend Lady Pink Brings NYC to London

A New York subway experience in the heart of Shoreditch, London.

D’Stassi Art announces “Miss Subway NYC,” the first solo exhibition by graffiti legend Lady Pink.

Born in Ecuador and raised in Queens, New York, Lady Pink is an undisputed art icon. She began tagging at just 15 years old, and by 17, she was showing her work alongside Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. Most notably, Lady Pink created for the real New Yorkers, the ones whose homes were subway stations.

As the press release stated, “Graffiti writers risked their lives for their art. The subway trains were a moving canvas and the bloodstream of the scene. Teenagers competed for space and attention, pushing one another to go bigger, bolder and better. They rarely visited other stations, but the trains carried their work across the city, fueling rivalries and inspiration.”

Open until late September 2025, the immersive art exhibit replicates the essence of NYC that became Lady Pink’s canvas. This exhibit “pays tribute to that world, capturing the characters who emerged at night while she was painting: saxophonists, the elderly and the homeless.” As Lady Pink said, “Those were the people you made it for. The straphangers.”

Co-owners of D’Stassi Art gallery, Michael Howes and Edward Sanders, elaborated on this exhibit’s cultural importance. “Lady Pink is a true icon. This exhibition is not only an honour for the gallery, but a continuation of the story we began; exploring the early rise of graffiti and street art making its way from the streets to the galleries and celebrating the pioneers who gave street art its soul. With the immersive NYC subway experience, we want to bring audiences into Lady Pink’s world and show how her legacy continues to
influence the culture today.”
