Luar's SS26 Beauty Looks Are Bringing Carnival to the Runway

Featuring bold glam executed by Andrew Dahling.

Luar has never been one to skimp on extravagant beauty details and the brand’s SS26 show at New York Fashion Week is no exception. Referencing what head makeup artist Andrew Dahling calls “carnival fantasy,” Luar’s SS26 beauty looks are maintaining the sense of elevated intentionality that the brand has been delivering season after season.

With tons of bold, blue eye looks and touches of feathers, Luar’s carnival-inspired glam is merging cultural tradition and the innovative nature of runway beauty. For the eye look, Dahling says the inspiration came from the brand’s desire to dream up eyeshadow that looked like eyewear. Using products from MAC Cosmetics, the makeup artist says he attempted to incorporate the extreme nature of John Galliano‘s makeup looks into the tried-and-true carnival aesthetic. “I wanted to combine all of those worlds together,” he tells Hypebae.

While the makeup looks became a statement of their own, the nails and hair followed suit. For nail looks, models sported long square claws and cobalt blue feather extensions. Harping on the theme of carnival, the maximalist nails were a small yet impactful detail to tie everything together. As for hair, feathers were also used to create carnival-esque hair pieces and intricate braided hairstyles.

Merging a plethora of references both vintage and modern, Dahling’s work with Luar is a culmination of Luar’s ethos of cultural ties and avant-garde practices. When it comes to beauty, Luar upholds the understanding that small details are just as integral as the garments themselves.
