MoMA Opens Its First-Ever Dedicated Bookstore in Seoul

Cementing the city’s status as a global art capital.

Seoul just hit a major milestone because the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) just opened its first-ever dedicated bookstore in the heart of the city. Marking the latest chapter in a two-decade partnership with Hyundai Card, the New York-based institution is bringing its curatorial prestige to South Korea, its first venture of this kind anywhere in the world.

Nestled in the sleek, design-forward district of Apgujeong in Dosan Park, the MoMA bookstore is more than just a retail space. It houses over 1,100 titles from rare exhibition catalogs to contemporary art, photography and design books, including exclusive editions straight from the museum’s archive. True to MoMA’s vision, the store also features a curated selection of design objects and lifestyle items from the MoMA Design Store, blending art, form and function, ideal for all the art fanatics out there.

Visitors can shop for everything from collectible books to cult-favorite merch like New Era caps, varsity sweaters and covetable design pieces that double as home decor. The experience is immersive and intentionally curated for Seoul’s growing community of art lovers and global tastemakers.

The MoMA x Hyundai Card partnership dates back to 2006, originally beginning as a sponsorship initiative. It has since evolved into a rich cultural exchange, now featuring the “Hyundai Card MoMA Digital Wall,” a cutting-edge installation in Seoul that streams digital artworks shown in real-time at MoMA in New York, offering a live dialogue between the two cities. The bookstore’s debut not only reinforces MoMA’s expanding global footprint but also positions Seoul as a leading destination in the international art scene.

The bookstore is now open in the Gangnam District in Seoul.

In other art news, the world’s biggest Tracey Emin exhibition is coming to London.
