Anya Taylor-Joy Is in Her Experimental Beauty Era
We talked to the star about her evolving makeup aesthetic and the new “Dior Addict” collection.
In an era ruled by rigorous anti-aging regimens and barely-there makeup routines, Dior Beauty is attempting to reignite our love for the playful side of beauty. Harping on its new candy-colored “Dior Addict” collection, brand ambassador Anya Taylor-Joy says she’s finally outgrown her tomboy tendencies and is more inspired than ever to experiment with makeup and fragrance.
Fronted by Anya Taylor-Joy, Jisoo and Willow Smith, Dior Beauty has officially unveiled its “Dior Addict” collection — consisting of three signature perfumes: Rosy Glow, Peachy Glow and Purple Glow along with an entire range of Dior Addict Lip Glow Oils. When dreaming up the launch, Dior Makeup’s creative and image director Peter Philips says the brand had hopes to tap into the beauty community’s desire for products that both look and feel fun.
“You can call ['Dior Addict'] the younger line — but younger doesn’t mean age, it means in spirit. The line is easy, no-brainer products that deliver. They’re not pretentious, but they’re cool,” Philips tells Hypebae. While stripped-down makeup has become a prominent look online, the “Dior Addict” line is an attempt to bring fun-loving beauty fans together with sparkly lip combos and sweet-smelling perfumes.
Through the “Dior Addict” collection, Anya Taylor-Joy has built up an appetite for experimentation. Although the actor considers herself a late bloomer when it comes to makeup and skincare — over the years, she’s landed on signature glam that tends to feel more classic and elevated. As a result, she’s entering a brand new era of beauty that’s fueled by her desire to play.
Ahead, we speak to Anya Taylor-Joy about her evolving view of beauty and her personal connection to fragrance.
On Working With Dior Beauty
It’s a wonderful journey. I feel like I learned so much, and for me, it’s really about the people. I feel so lucky that I have a family that I can collaborate with — Jisoo and Willow. It’s just a dream.
On Her Favorite “Dior Addict” Product
I’m most excited about the Lip Glow Oils. They have three different finishes, and I really love the juicy one. On the days that we’re actually shooting, they put so much of it on me and it doesn’t move — which I think is pretty spectacular, considering it’s lacquer for your lips.
On the Scent Note She Associates With Herself
When I’m [not playing a character], I’m more of a smoky oud kind of a gal. I go for things that are a little bit darker. But, there’s a jasmine accord in the Peachy Glow perfume and it reminds me of my mom, she had Jasmine all over our house in Argentina when I was growing up, so it kind of transports me back in time.
On Her Signature Beauty Aesthetic
I’d like to get more into experimentation, only because my actual makeup skills are not great, so I need to find the time in my own life to just sit down with myself and play, because I’m usually always doing it for work. I feel like something classic is more fail-safe in my line of work, but I definitely want to experiment more.
On What Working on Period Pieces Has Taught Her About Beauty
I would love to be able to do a good Sharon Tate eye. I haven’t worked it out yet, but anytime someone puts it on me, I feel like it just adds this glamour and drama that I’m craving in life right now. But, most of the time I’m pretty bare faced.
On Her Relationship With Skincare
I got into skincare way too late, probably at like 18. I grew up such a tomboy, and suddenly realized that my face was kind of integral to what I was doing for a living. But now I love it. It’s my favorite thing to do, right before bed, and it’s nice to have a little ritual for myself.
