McQueen's Latest Campaign Has Us Holding Our Breath
Shot underwater to showcase its bag inspired by the manta ray.
The slow-moving butterfly of the ocean, the manta ray, is the majestic creature that inspired McQueen’s Manta Bag. It’s only fitting that this feat of engineering and nature gets its own dedicated campaign.
Lensed by renowned British photographer Tim Walker, the bag is immersed in an otherworldly waterscape that channels the quiet beneath the surface in an arresting lineup of images. Harnessing the power and beauty of nature, this is so much more than just a campaign.
Inspired by a defining silhouette from the house’s archive, the De Manta, first introduced for Spring/Summer 2010, this is the definition of innovating from the archives. Rooted in McQueen’s enduring fascination with the natural world, the bag translates the form of the manta ray into an angular, folded silhouette, with geometric lines embodying the tensions at the heart of the brand. Sculptural, sharp and clashing the natural with the urban, this is engineered for everyday use.
The Manta is available in black, red and metallic gunmetal leather, with pearl, crystal and chandelier chain charms. Check out the ethereal images above and shop the bag via the McQueen website.
