Ulla Johnson Recruited Artist Cassi Namoda for Its Latest Collection
The designer infuses surrealist African paintings into floral knits and leather sets.
Ulla Johnson is injecting some major artistic energy into its Resort 2027 lineup through a fresh partnership with painter Cassi Namoda. The capsule borrows the bright, surrealist color palettes of three specific works by the Mozambican-born artist, translating raw canvas tones into a wearable daily wardrobe.
The collection leans heavily into rich textures and structural design elements inspired by Namoda’s landscapes. Splashes of lemon and serpentine green pop underneath soft nylon tailoring, while hand-crochet pieces and matte jersey styles feature three-dimensional, spiraling floral motifs. For a tactile feel, the brand hand-applied gathered strips of organza to mimic delicate petals.
The range also debuts a new petal pink-wash denim set featuring a structured bustier jacket paired with matching barrel-leg jeans. Tailoring gets a seasonal update through Italian mélange wool suiting in deep khaki tones, layered over ruffled light blue poplin blouses and stretch Chantilly lace separates. Leather makes an appearance too, with buttery nappa skins shaped into a fresh bomber jacket and a pleated mini skirt. Color-blocked faux fur, silk crepe de chine and engineered chiffon scarves round out the graphic, patchwork-heavy delivery.
