Ashley Williams SS27 Reminds Us "There's Life Here, Still"

For her LFW showcase, the designer showed us what life looks like when the party’s over.

Designer Ashley Williams is known for her modern-day exploration of contemporary girlhood. Turning feminine tropes on their fashion week heads, she utilizes familiar floral prints and babydoll dresses and adds tongue-in-cheek accessories, or in this case, a healthy dose of “Get Low” by Lil Jon.

For her Spring/Summer 2027 showcase at London Fashion Week, Williams turned her attention to what lives inside, and in a quite literal sense. Looking at the concept of house clothes, cherished trinkets and functional furniture, the designer reinterpreted the aspects of our mundane lives in a way that only she could.

Old hosiery was transformed into what can only be described as on-body storage, while classic floral dresses were worn with mannequin-style wigs. In a sort of ‘the party’s finally over’ way, models wore the remnants of happier times, blurred into slubby night-gowns that never come off.

Blending functional footwear with what once was, outfits felt both happy and sad, like a reminder that life has its ups and downs. Showcasing subtle memories of a life well lived, the collection aimed to remind us that “there is life here, still” and “There is dignity in saying this is all there is,” according to the show notes.
