Moschino Invites 400 "Commuters" To Its SS27 Runway
The Italian house’s new creative directors, Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo, are “breaking the rules as a spontaneous necessity.”
Moschino has entered a fresh era for Spring/Summer 2027 as creative directors Loris Messina and Simone Rizzo present their debut collection for the house. As the founders of Sunnei, the creative duo has spent the last decade subverting luxury expectation and delivering immersive showcases that are both momentous and irreverent. Now, at Moschino they continue their legacy forward.
When starting at Moschino, they drafted a manifesto which reads, in part, as a to-do list: “Reignite Moschino without imitating it, Irony is a stance, Fashion serves this purpose, Tell the truth, Study the archive, Understand — without replicating, Speak to real people.” And speak to real people they did.
For their SS27 showcase, they invited over 400 friends, colleagues, photographers, editors and industry favorites to walk alongside the models at the show. Being in attendance, you immediately felt a feeling of sonder, a realization that these random strangers walking by are living a life as vivid, complex and real as your own and as the models dressed in the collection. This stunt felt natural to the creative mindset of Messina and Rizzo, and it was executed with intention and swagger.
As for the collection, the creative directors delivered a garment lineup that balances architectural fluid silhouettes with precise construction, deliberately avoiding excess. Layering drives the garment construction, seen in stacked tank tops, cropped dark jackets worn over protruding shirt hems, and green plaid shirts clashing against secondary checks. Outerwear pairings include a yellow-and-black checked jacket layered over an extended pink plaid shirt paired with olive trousers.
Elsewhere, a white “GOOD LUCK” graphic tee meets lean green trousers, alongside a clean white sleeveless top engineered with subtle, colorful side accents. Drawing directly from archive studies without replicating past works, the collection establishes a sharp, functional framework for daily wear.
If this is Messina and Rizzo’s first foray at Moschino, consider us firmly buckled in and eagerly awaiting the ride.
