Say Hello to FILA's Newest Chunky Sneaker Re-Release, the Barricade XT 97
Larger than life.
Not content with winning the crown of Shoe of The Year 2018 with its Disruptor 2, FILA has re-released another retro silhouette to cap off a strong 12 months for the brand. The unisex Barricade XT 97 is inspired by the basketball shoe of the same name which, as is suggested, initially hit shelves over two decades ago in 1997.
Although key elements of the bulky trainers remain the same as the original iteration, it has had a contemporary makeover and can currently be shopped in six colorways. The bold, mixed material upper is more lightweight than it seems at first glance, with complementary details around the lacing unit adding a considered touch. FILA’s signature F emblem is embroidered onto the heel and tongue, whilst the full brand name is spelled out on the lateral side cleverly separated on leather panels. In keeping with the bigger-is-better chunky footwear trend, the exaggerated midsole reaches a height of around 3.5cm.
