Here Are All the Must-Know Trends from Fashion Week

Fresh off the runway.

Fashion month has come to an end, and we’ve seen exciting runway shows, captured the best street style as well as rounded up the best shoe collaborations that debuted throughout the events, and now we’re taking a look at the biggest trends that were showcased on the Fall/Winter 2018 runways.

Keep reading to see what fashion’s finest will be wearing all season long.

Balaclava Headwear

The “Balaclava” headpiece was perhaps the most prevalent throughout the month, with brands like Gucci, Balenciaga, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein and Versace getting on the trend. The trend has been criticized and called “controversial” because of its resemblance to the Burka or headscarf, but that didn’t seem to stop the biggest brands in the industry to debut their own twists on the look.

Glitter Makeup

Glitter seems to be the way to go this season, with Giambattista Valli and Preen sending models with a full face of glitter down the runway. Don’t let anyone dull your sparkle this fall – you’ll be shining brighter than ever.

Post-Apocalyptic Aesthetics

It seems as if designers are gearing up for an inevitable apocalypse, showcasing hazmat-inspired pieces, as well as protective headgear and deconstructed silhouettes. The aesthetic was adopted by Raf Simons for Calvin Klein, Maison Margiela, Prada and many more – so be ready to gear up.

Layers on Layers

It’s no secret that layering is a timeless fashion trick that works as well on the runway as it does on the streets. This season, labels like Balenciaga and COMME des GARÇONS took it to the next level by showcasing elevated silhouettes constructed by an unconventional amount of layers. If you’ve been waiting to wear jackets on jackets, your time is now.

Sparkly Sequins

It seems as if we’re in for a bright fall, with big names like Off-White™, Gucci, Saint Laurent and Chanel sending shimmering pieces down the runway. Sequins, glitter and organza were on full display, showing that sometimes, more is more.

Statement Hats

It’s time to get on the hat trend, and Marc Jacobs, Rick Owens, Undercover and Prada took the headwear to a new level by creating eye-catching silhouettes that will turn heads everywhere. From the exaggerated beanie to the over-size top hat, big and bold seems to be the way to go in terms of accessories.

Plaid

Prints, prints and more prints – plaid is here to stay. Versace, Michael Kors, Fendi and more featured the timeless pattern in their Fall/Winter 2018 collections, showing bold interpretations and top-to-toe looks sporting the checkered motif. Colorful and eye-catching, the pieces served straight Cher Horowitz from Clueless vibes and we’re all for it.
