Louis Vuitton Announces Virgil Abloh as New Men's Artistic Director
Replacing Kim Jones.
After announcing that Kim Jones would be departing from his position as men’s artistic director at renowned fashion house Louis Vuitton, the Parisian label has now announced his successor will be none other than Off-White™ founder and designer Virgil Abloh.
Known for his striking streetwear background and unique aesthetic, it remains to be seen what Abloh will bring to the brand. The designer has previously collaborated with huge names like Nike and Jimmy Choo, and after Louis Vuitton’s infamous and highly coveted Supreme collaboration, this might mean that we will be seeing the label drift towards a streetwear-focused approach. Many brands have began targeting the streetwear scene, as the demand for luxury labels has started to rapidly increase over the past few years. What this means for Louis Vuitton is yet unclear, but we can only hope that Abloh will create a new and intriguing direction for the famous fashion house.
Kim Jones, who previously held the position, took to Instagram to congratulate Virgil on his new title by stating, “Congratulations to to my friend Virgil !!! Love and respect.” The former artistic director announced that he would be succeeding Kris Van Assche at Dior Homme. Kim Kardashian also tweeted “@virgilabloh This is so major! Congrats Virg!” It remains to see how this will impact Louis Vuitton, and make sure to stay tuned for all the latest updates.
