Ugly-Chic Sport Sunglasses Are the Celebrity-Approved Summer Style Trend
Tiny shades are so last season.
Kanye West once famously told his wife Kim Kardashian to ditch her big sunglasses for “tiny little” ones. Not only did the YEEZY muse took the advice, the rest of the fashion community followed suit, giving rise to the Matrix-inspired trend that took over the fashion circuit and even the Cannes red carpet. For those who’ve been keeping up, however, you’d probably have noticed that the reality star is no longer wearing micro frames these days. Whether at the alleged YEEZY Season 7 photoshoot, or while attending the Louis Vuitton SS19 Men’s show, Kim K has been loving herself some oversized, sport eyewear.
It seems like the tiny sunglasses trend has run its course, and that the industry is now in favor of a the sporty-meets-ugly-chic accessory. In fact, during Rihanna‘s final Fenty PUMA runway show last September, athletic eyewear was featured throughout the catwalk, as seen on models like Kaia Gerber, Selena Forrest and on RiRi herself. Most recently, designer Heron Preston unveiled a surprise collaboration with Nike during Paris Fashion Week Men’s, featuring not co-branded sneakers but performance sunglasses created with the Nike Vision department. Right before the show, Nike ambassador Bella Hadid already got to test drive one of those sunnies, sporting it to Virgil Abloh‘s LV presentation.
Consider this the 2018 update to the ever-popular athleisure look. To rock the trend this summer, check out five sport sunglass styles below from Nike, adidas, Oakley and more.
