See the Emotional First Trailer for Amandla Stenberg's New Movie 'The Hate U Give'
The story of a teenager witnessing a white police officer shoot and kill her childhood friend.
Amandla Stenberg has been teasing her upcoming movie, The Hate U Give, on social media for some time now, and finally the first trailer is here. The story is based on the original novel by Angie Thomas, which follows a teenager named Starr Carter who is caught between two worlds: her lower-income neighborhood that is predominantly black, and the private, suburban high school she attends with mainly white students. After she witnesses a white police officer shoot and kill her childhood friend, Khalil, her worlds turn upside down.
The movie is directed by George Tillman Jr. and is set to open in theatres on October 19. The movie features big names like Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Anthony Mackie and Common, and if the trailer says anything about the film, we’re in for quite the ride.
