Raf Simons’ vision comes alive.
CALVIN KLEIN 205W39NYC‘s highly anticipated Spring/Summer 2019 show just took place at New York Fashion Week, and brought everything from movie-inspired graphics to graduation gowns. Since Raf Simons‘ start at the label two years ago, the famous designer has taken on a new aesthetic for the all-American label, previously being inspired by true Americana in his Fall/Winter 2018 range. This time around, the creative director looked at the classic film Jaws, as well as drew inspiration from Mike Nichols’ The Graduate.
“Disasters happen but they turn again into beauty, and beauty is around us and it can oftentimes turn into disaster,” Simons said about his inspirations. The collection was a literal interpretation of the cult-movies, with the Jaws poster emblazoned on T-shirts and tank tops alongside the CK logo, and mortarboard graduation caps being an obvious The Graduate reference. Combined with Raf Simons’ impeccable tailoring and unique silhouettes, the display was eye-catching and surprising, but combined elements of pop-culture with traditional silhouettes.
