UNDERCOVER Unveils New Nike Waffle Racer for SS19 Collection, "THE SEVENTH SENSE"
We also spy a Dr. Martens collab at the brand’s Paris showroom.
While UNDERCOVER is no longer showing womenwear on the runway beginning this season, the brand’s latest collection presented through art directed imagery and at its Paris showroom is just as enticing as Jun Takahashi‘s previous creations. Dubbed “THE SEVENTH SENSE,” the Japanese label’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection is filled with references to both Western and Japanese pop culture. As reflected by its title, the collection is divided into seven sub-themes, with the story of each group of apparel, footwear and accessories captured and told in a series of editorial images.
First up is a capsule inspired by the Japanese anime show Creamy Mami, the Magic Angel. Having included a sweater printed with the character in his SS19 Men’s show, Takahashi now delivers even more items that appeal to fans of the nostalgic series, ranging from crewnecks to canvas bags. Additionally, models including the designer’s daughter Lala Takahashi are styled with UNDERCOVER’s upcoming collaboration with Nike. Following up on the popular React Element 87 release, the brands have joined forces once again for a lineup of Waffle Racer designs, coming in colorways of green, red, blue and black.
At the Paris showroom, we also spy a selection of items that pay homage to David Bowie. From graphic sweaters to statement-making bomber jackets, Takahashi has worked with photographer Mick Rock to license the iconic images of the late singer’s Ziggy Stardust years.
An all-white range stands out among the bright-colored pieces. Taking inspiration from A Clockwork Orange, this particular section of the presentation is made up of clean, white separates, bowler hats, and even a pair of special-edition Dr. Martens boots.
