Virgil Abloh Took Over Louis Vuitton's NYC Flagship With 12-Story Art Installation
The psychedelic figure is inspired by ‘The Wizard of Oz.’
Virgil Abloh has installed stunning art installations at several location including Louis Vuitton‘s New York and Los Angeles locations. The psychedelic figure stands 12 stories above NYC’s 5th avenue giving off a holographic appearance. Its brilliant color is inspired by The Wizard of Oz which also served as a reference for Abloh’s debut Spring/Summer 2019 collection. The brand shares more information on the towering model: “In the spirit of the collection, the windows consist of technicolor skies, fields of flowers and the yellow brick road. Additionally, an oversized, colorful figure stands inside the store creating an optical illusion that extends onto the street and throughout the store.”
A similar sculpture has also appeared at Japan’s Harajuku station taking on a crouching pose. Abloh shares that there will be more to come in the weeks leading up to February’s fashion month. Preview the New York installation above and stay tuned for more information.
