K-Pop Group NCT 127 Drops New Album, 'We Are Superhuman'
The boy band also unveils a video for “Superhuman.”
K-pop boy band NCT 127 returns to drop its latest album, We Are Superhuman. The EP follows up on NCT 127’s first headlining American tour that was comprised of stops in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. The six-track project features the work of rising producers, Korean producer TAK and American songwriter Adrian McKinnon. This duo spearheaded the lead single on the album, “Superhuman.” Social House, an American producing team also played a role in the energetic compilation.
As a follow-up to the group’s well-received album Regular-Irregular, this compilation finds the boy band experimenting with new sounds like trap and hip-hop fused with Latin influences. Debut performances of “Highway to Heaven” and “Jet Lag” during the American tour stops gave fans a glimpse into the new tracks. “Highway to Heaven” is a high point to begin the album as the vocals reign supreme throughout the whole song. The easygoing beat is breezy and makes for a perfect summer bop.
“Superhuman” is another standout song on the project thanks to its innovative sound. The pop-centric production makes it an easy song to turn to if you’re looking for a pick me up. In the futuristic-themed video that also dropped today the group sings and showcases why they are a global phenomenon. The close-up shots provide a closer look at each member, the well-executed choreography and the overall theme of the clip.
Another track featuring pop elements is “FOOL,” a fast-paced song with a bit of a neo-soul twist found in the chorus. “Jet Lag” includes an English chorus, possibly produced to lead to crossover success. Without a doubt, it’s also an easy listen filled with soft vocals and top tier production.
We Are Superhuman is the group’s first Korean album of the year. April was marked by the release of their LP Awaken. In case you forgot, Regular-Irregular landed at the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Album charts in over 22 countries.
