Model Kate Upton Calls out Victoria's Secret for Lack of Body Diversity
“It’s a snoozefest.”
Victoria’s Secret hasn’t had the best track record this summer, with models signing a petition for sexual misconduct as well rumors that the annual fashion show will be canceled this year. Now, model Kate Upton is calling out the lingerie brand.
In case you didn’t know, Kate Upton has worked with Victoria’s Secret previously before her Sports Illustrated fame, modeling a collection of pajamas in 2011, and also modeled in a few catalogs after her rise to fame.
In 2012, Sophia Neophitou, the Creative Director of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, was asked in a New York Times interview whether she would cast Kate Upton. She replied saying that they would never use her because she was “too obvious.” She said:
“She’s like a Page 3 girl. She’s like a footballer’s wife, with the too-blond hair and that kind of face that anyone with enough money can go out and buy.”
In a segment of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen last night, Kate Upton appeared as a guest and was asked by a fan what her reaction was to the rumors that the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was getting canceled. Making a case for body positivity, Kate Upton responded:
“We’re sick of seeing the same body type. You have to be body-inclusive now. Every woman needs to be represented. Otherwise, it’s a snoozefest.”
