Marc Jacobs Stars in Givenchy's New SS20 Campaign
Alongside iconic actor Charlotte Rampling.
Givenchy has crowned designer Marc Jacobs and French actor Charlotte Rampling the label’s Spring/Summer 2020 campaign faces. Accompanying a set of recently unveiled ad images, Givenchy posted a series of black-and-white videos to Instagram of the Paris-based actor conducting drama class with the New York designer.
Over the past few days, the pair have taken over the fashion house’s Instagram, appearing in short clips that honor “Givenchy’s signature grand portraiture style of imagery.” Shot by Craig McDean and directed by the label’s Artistic Director Clare Waight Keller, the duo model pieces from the brand’s upcoming SS20 collection in an unconventional manner: the two stars mimic each other, ending in an epic finale that depicts Rampling slapping Jacobs across the face.
In an accompanying two-minute campaign video, Rampling takes center stage to improvise a selection of moods: “Fear… Ecstasy… Pain.” Jacobs attempts to join in on Rampling’s extraordinary performance before the iconic actor schools him on performance. With all the action, it’s easy to miss that the duo switch between sporting Givenchy’s mens and womenswear offerings throughout the clip.
