In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has announced that the Fashion Awards 2020 will take on a virtual format. According to BFC’s press release, this year’s ceremony will recognize and celebrate designers, brands, creatives and individuals who made an impact within the fashion industry this year despite the world’s current state. Stephanie Phair, BFC’s Chair said:

“This has been a year like no other. Fashion has probably been changed forever and businesses and designers have had to adapt to a new reality. It is more important than ever to recognise those in the fashion industry who played an important role in this extraordinary year, proving the compassion and resilience of our industry. This is what The Fashion Awards 2020 have set to do, by spotlighting those who have shown leadership and creative resilience over the past year.”

The council plans to “shine a spotlight on those who made humanitarian efforts, adapted their business models and responded to their community’s needs” in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Partnerships. A special short film will announce a lineup of 20 individuals and brands who will receive a “2020 Fashion Award” in honor of their specific contribution. For its third consecutive year, the BFC will also reveal its “2020 New Wave: Creatives” list, which highlights emerging talent and is an active resource for booking creatives. On top of that, the BFC will continue its longstanding partnership with Swarovski by working on a new initiative together for 2021, along with a new BFC strategy.

As for the Fashion Awards 2021, the show is set to take place on November 29, 2021 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The BFC states that next year’s ceremony will be reimagined to reflect its “new mission and with the ambition to have technology and engagement at its heart, looking at innovations for amplification and new experiences.”

Stay tuned while we wait for the full list of nominees. The BFC’s digital Fashion Awards 2020 will debut on December 3. In the meantime, head over to the Fashion Awards’ website for more details.
