Demna Gvasalia Will Present Balenciaga's FW21 Collection in a Video Game

The digital experience will be set in the year 2031 and feature Gvasalia’s new designs.

Adapting to the constraints of the pandemic, Balenciaga will show its Fall/Winter 2021 collection in video game form. Dubbed “Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow,” the collection is a “record-breaking video game” set in the year 2031 and features designer Demna Gvasalia‘s new offerings.

Balenciaga shared details of the unorthodox collection, centered around the theme of human destiny, with WWD: “A hero avatar advances throughout distinct zones, motivated by tasks and interactions,” the house said. “The narrative of ‘Afterworld’ is anchored to mythological pasts and projected futures with timeless archetypes and speculative imagery.” Balenciaga also reports that “Afterworld” sets records as “the largest volumetric video project ever undertaken.”

Balenciaga will unveil its FW21 collection on December 6, 2021. Stay tuned as visuals are revealed.
