Rick Owens Introduces Pops of Blue, Red and Green to FW20 Collection
Unusually bright work from the designer.
Rick Owens, a designer who rarely strays from a color palette of black and white, ventured into the realm of blue, red and green for his Fall/Winter 2020 collection, unveiled at Palais de Tokyo in Paris. Typical for Owens, the designer played with proportion and silhouette, presenting a range of slinky knitwear, tailored leather jackets and cocooning coats.
Bias-cut dresses featured hip-high slits that revealed towering platform boots in black leather, green croc-embossed skin and opaque, hazmat suit-like plastic. A range of jackets contrasted leather bodices (rendered in light blue and olive green) with knit sleeves, the shoulders of which were supported by bulky, triangular pads. Puffer outerwear arrived as billowing quilted capes, fastened across the chest with a single industrial chain. Accessories included clutches with built-in gloves – bizarre, yet in line with Owens’ avant-garde sensibility.
