Marvel Shares Chadwick Boseman Tribute Video
The actor’s ‘Black Panther’ co-stars speak about his dedication and talent.
Marvel Studios has released an emotional video paying tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who starred as King T’Challa in the franchise’s 2018 film Black Panther. The actor, who was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2016, died at 43 on August 28. Boseman, who became a cultural icon for portraying the first Black movie superhero, had not spoken publicly about his battle with the illness.
Marvel’s four-minute video compiles behind-the-scenes footage of Boseman working on Black Panther, as well as interviews with the actor’s co-stars. “I had a great time with Chadwick…I came into it of course with a great deal of respect for his previous work. When I looked at him with proud eyes, they were as mother and also as comrade and colleague,” said Angela Bassett, who played Boseman’s on-screen mother. Lupita Nyong’o, who portrayed undercover spy Nakia, also spoke of Boseman’s talent. “What doesn’t Chadwick bring to the character? He’s regal and grounded and brings a gravitas to it. All of this feeds his T’Challa, and I think he wore the crown well,” she reflected.
