Lady Gaga takes home five trophies, while BLACKPINK makes history as the first K-pop girl group to win a VMA title.

Marking the biggest event taking place amid the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s MTV VMAs is a blend of pre-recorded performances and real-time red carpet arrivals. With shows from artists like The Weeknd, Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, the awards ceremony celebrated some of the biggest releases in the music industry spanning from quarantine-themed titles to K-pop.

Sporting pandemic-ready outfits, Lady Gaga took home five awards, including the inaugural Tricon title, as well as Song of the Year, Best Collaboration and Best Cinematography for her “Rain On Me” track with Ariana Grande. Meanwhile, H.E.R.‘s “I Can’t Breathe” music video addressing the Black Lives Matter movement was named Video for Good. Elsewhere, BTS was crowned Best K-pop, Best Group, Best Choreography and Best Pop for their hit track “ON,” while BLACKPINK made history as the first-ever girl K-pop group to win a VMA award.
