Only 25 slots are available per semester.
The Korean film industry has been booming since director Bong Joon-ho‘s film Parasite won four Oscars earlier this year. K-dramas, in particular, have been attracting fans from all over the globe, especially in the Philippines, after the debut of Netflix‘s Crash Landing on You, Itaewon Class and most recently, It’s Okay To Not Be Okay.
With the rising popularity of K-dramas, The University of the Philippines has announced that it is now “offering an elective course that will analyze select Korean series,” including Crash Landing on You, Chicago Typewriter and Misaeng. According to Manila Bulletin, the College of Mass Communication will host the class and can only provide 25 seats. As of now, over 200 students have enlisted for the course.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this class will be taught online through Google Meet, Messenger, Viber or Zoom. Officially titled “Special Topics: Analysis of K-drama Series,” the course is open to all majors and will take place every Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. PST once the semester begins.
