Maria Grazia Chiuri Interprets Tarot for Dior SS21 Couture
The house’s latest collection is inspired by the divinatory arts.
Maria Grazia Chiuri tried her hand at tarot reading for Christian Dior‘s Spring/Summer 2021 Haute Couture collection, an opulent range that pays homage to Monsieur Dior’s fascination with the divinatory arts.
Chiuri translates the visual language of a deck of tarot cards, applying illustrations of the zodiac signs to richly embroidered coats and gilded gowns. The Death card is embodied by a silvery, sheer frock paired with a matching floor-length cape while The Moon is expressed as a rose gold, empire waist dress with a Watteau train. The Fool is dressed in a voluminous tulle mini-dress adorned with simple shapes and The High Priestess wears a jacquard coat with a deep red interior. Dior’s classic Bar jacket is rendered in black velvet and paired with sleek trousers, a more masculine silhouette that offsets the femininity of the house’s historic New Look, appearing in the form of cinched, belted waistlines and flared skirts.
