Chanel Celebrates Photographers at SS22 Presentation
The nostalgic catwalk, surrounded by cameras and flashes, is a nod to ’80s fashion shows.
Closing Paris Fashion Week, Virginie Viard showcased a photography-inspired collection for Chanel this Spring/Summer 2022 season.
“Because fashion is about clothes, models and photographers… Karl Lagerfeld used to photograph the Chanel campaigns himself. Today, I call upon photographers,” Viard spoke of the collection. “I love the way that they see Chanel. It supports and inspires me.” Accompanying the presentation, the creative director tapped photographer duo Inez & Vinoodh for a series of images and video clips starring the house’s friends: Lily-Rose Depp, Alma Jodorowsky, BLACKPINK‘s Jennie, Rebecca Dayan and Quannah Chasinghorse-Potts.

Staged in a temporary space with the house’s regular Grand Palais venue undergoing a major renovation, the SS22 show celebrated Chanel’s brand DNA. The first few looks were dedicated to Karl Lagerfeld‘s tenure with CC-branded swimsuits and briefs. More ’90s-inspired designs took over the catwalk, including sequined mini-dresses, boxy jackets and classic tweed suits. Further into the presentation, Viard shared her take on denim alongside ribbed knit sets splashed with pastel colors. The stage closed with a range of bold prints on chiffon skirts and dresses.
