'Emily in Paris' Star Lucas Bravo Thinks "Being Famous Is the Worst"
The model-turned-actor shares his take on being a “heartthrob.”
Fans of Netflix‘s Emily in Paris have probably been swooning over Gabriel (played by Lucas Bravo) since Season 1 premiered. However, the actor recently opened up about being seen as a “heartthrob.”
“I’ve been working for this for 10 years… feeling like you’re going in the right direction… Then I was just like a heartthrob overnight,” Bravo told The Times. “I think being famous is the worst thing that can happen to you. It’s just smoke. It doesn’t mean anything.”
The model-turned-actor also shared that due to his appearance, the roles offered to him aren’t as diverse as he wishes them to be. “You can’t be aesthetically beautiful, and be smart or have depth. I kept getting roles like the dumb gym teacher,” he said. “It’s hard to break that image. I’m not complaining, of course, but it’s a reality.”
With his experience of blowing up overnight after Emily in Paris released, Bravo has become “very self-aware.” “Because when you think about that word [heartthrob] and the people it encapsulates, you see always a healthy, good-looking, ripped person — and I’m not that.”
Last year, when the first season landed on the streaming giant, Bravo had to learn how to navigate through his newfound fame. Bravo explained that being recognized in public felt foreign to him. “I mean, it’s flattering but at the same time it’s very strange,” he expressed.
