Nike Celebrates Black Women in "We Play Real" Video Campaign
Featuring athletes such as A’ja Wilson, Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and more.
Leading up to the NBA All-Star Game that took place on Sunday night, Nike launched a new video campaign celebrating the influence of Black women in sports. Titled “We Play Real,” the film spotlights individuals like Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, A’ja Wilson and more.
“It’s not magic. Yeah, we can make things float, make something appear out of absolutely nothing,” Dominique Fishback narrates atop dynamic clips of athletes in action. Aiming to “celebrate Black women and their resilience and fortitude to lead the world forward,” the video continues: “We got that thing. That hooping, soccer-playing, game-changing, oh-so resilient, double layouting, butterfly stroking. We worked for all of this.” The campaign additionally includes moments from the Black Lives Matter movement, when figures like Naomi Osaka used their platform to fight for racial justice.
