A24 Releases Whirlwind Trailer for 'Zola'

A24 has unveiled a wild new trailer for Zola, an on-screen adaptation of a viral Twitter thread that recounted a lucrative stripping gig gone bad.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the explosive thread: In 2015, Aziah “Zola” Wells, a stripper at the time, tweeted an epic story of a Florida trip that quickly turned into a nightmare. Zola had recently met fellow stripper Jessica, who invited her to dance at an upscale club in Tampa. Jessica’s roommate, Rudy, also came along — in a turn of events, Rudy turned out to be Jessica’s pimp, who proceeded to coerce both Zola and Jessica into prostitution.
Directed by Janicza Bravo, Zola brings the sex trafficking tale to the big screen, starring Taylour Paige as Zola and Riley Keough as Jessica. “This is messy. You’re messy. Your brain is broke,” Paige’s Zola yells at a climactic moment in the trailer. Supporting cast members Nicholas Braun and Colman Domingo also make an appearance in the teaser, portraying Jessica’s boyfriend and Rudy respectively.
Zola releases in theaters sometime this summer. Watch the trailer above.
