Kering Confirms Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen As Fur-Free Brands
Reflecting the changing landscape of the fashion industry.
Along with the likes of Prada, Gucci, Chanel and Burberry, Kering has revealed a report stating that Balenciaga and Alexander McQueen are among its fur-free fashion brands.
Although the French house has avoided the use of fur since Demna Gvasalia took over the creative role at Balenciaga in 2015, this is the first time that the brand is officially confirmed to be fur-free. The news comes after multiple brands have dropped the use of fur over the past years due to the changing landscape of fashion and consumer taste. Paying more attention to sustainability and ethical practices, brands have been opting for faux fur for their collections. In a report by Edited, the demand for vegan fur increased by 258 percent in the UK and United States in 2019.
As of now, the only brands under Kering that have yet to go fur-free are Saint Laurent and Brioni.
