The Gucci Family Is Not Happy With Ridley Scott's New Film
In a new interview, Patrizia Gucci slams Scott’s “shameful” casting choices.
Ridley Scott’s in-the-works film, House of Gucci, has already thrown the internet into a frenzy with behind-the-scenes photos of co-stars Adam Driver and Lady Gaga cozying up on a snowy balcony and feeding each other pastries (above). However, not everyone is delighted by the film and its cornucopia of meme-able material.
The movie delves into unsavory details of the Gucci family legacy, focusing on the the 1995 murder-for-hire of Maurizio Gucci (played by Driver), the grandson of house founder Guccio Gucci. Maurizio’s ex-wife, Patrizia Reggiani (Lady Gaga), was convicted for contracting the assassination and served 16 years in jail.
One of Maurizio’s second cousins, Patrizia Gucci, has come forward with concerns over the film’s portrayal of her family. “We are truly disappointed. I speak on behalf of the family,” she told The Associated Press. “They are stealing the identity of a family to make a profit, to increase the income of the Hollywood system….Our family has an identity, privacy. We can talk about everything. but there is a borderline that cannot be crossed,” Gucci expressed.
She went on to slam Scott’s decision to cast Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, Guccio’s son. “My grandfather was a very handsome man, like all the Guccis, and very tall, blue eyes and very elegant,” she recalled. “He is being played by Al Pacino, who is not very tall already, and this photo shows him as fat, short, with sideburns, really ugly. Shameful, because he doesn’t resemble him at all,” she said, citing recent paparazzi photos of the actor on set. She also questioned Jared Leto‘s resemblance to Paolo Gucci, Aldo’s son: “Horrible, horrible. I still feel offended,” she concluded.
Though not everyone is thrilled with House of Gucci, we’ll be first in line to see the film. Stay tuned for updates on an official release date.
