Marvel Unveils Teaser for Martial Arts Superhero Film, 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings'
Marking its first Asian superhero movie featuring Simu Liu, Awkwafina, Tony Leung and more.
While we’re waiting to watch Spider-Man 3 when it releases later this year, Marvel Studios has now unveiled the official trailer for its martial arts adventure film, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The anticipated movie stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi with a nearly all-Asian cast featuring the likes of Awkwafina and Tony Leung.
Released just in time for Liu’s birthday, the actor took to Instagram to share his excitement: “You know… I never saw myself as the hero of my own story growing up. I struggled to find any Asian characters onscreen, and there were fewer still that made me feel truly proud of my heritage.” He added: “It’s absolutely insane to think that in just over four months, we will have a Marvel movie featuring an almost entirely Asian cast, each full of rich nuance and dimensionality.”
Awkwafina will appear on the screen as Shang-Chi’s friend Katy, while Leung will play the superhero’s father Wenwu. The story will portray Shang-Chi’s struggles in confronting his past as he comes across a mysterious organization called the Ten Rings. The cast additionally includes Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Meng’er Zhang, Florian Munteanu and Ronny Chieng.
Watch the official teaser above. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is scheduled to hit theaters on September 3.
