New Study Finds That All Alcohol Consumption Damages the Brain

There might not be a “safe” limit when it comes to drinking.

A new study reports that “safe” alcohol consumption is a myth. Researchers from the University of Oxford found that all drinking reduces the volume of gray matter in the brain, regions that process information and help control movement, memory and emotions.

According to the study, which has yet to be peer-reviewed, alcohol caused greater damage to the brain than other controllable risk factors (such as smoking cigarettes). The researchers also found that there is no safe limit when it comes to alcohol consumption. Drinking specific amounts and types of alcohol had no effect on the harm done to the brain. In other words, drinking any amount of alcohol — whether it’s wine, beer or liquor — is worse for your health than abstaining.

Head to CNN to read more about the study and its findings.
