Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy To Return for 'Hocus Pocus' Sequel
Production will start this fall.
Disney has confirmed that Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy will reprise their original roles in Hocus Pocus 2, a sequel to the 1993 fantasy comedy film.
Back in 2019, the entertainment company revealed that the second part was in development with its streaming platform, Disney+. Now, with Midler, Parker and Najimy on board, production is expected to commence this fall. Midler took to Twitter to celebrate the news: “Sistaaaahs! It’s been 300 years… But we’re BACK!”
Anne Fletcher is set to direct the movie, while filmmaker Adam Shankman, who was originally supposed to be the director, will take on the role of executive producer. “As heartbroken as I am that I won’t be able to direct my friends Bette, Sarah Jessica and Kathy in what is sure to be nothing short of a major event for Disney+ due to scheduling conflicts,” Shankman told Variety. “I couldn’t be more pleased to be handing over the reins to Anne, who has brought so much laughter and joy into people’s lives with her previous work.”
Stay tuned as we wait for more details about the upcoming sequel. Hocus Pocus 2 is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
