Ami Colé Is the Minimal Makeup Brand Celebrating Melanin-Rich Skin

The brand just launched with three hero products, specifically formulated for darker skin tones.

Ami Colé is shining a spotlight on melanin-rich skin and Black beauty in all its forms. Founded by Diarrha N’Diaye, a first generation Senegalese American with eight years of experience in the beauty industry, the makeup brand has debuted three hero products: a tinted moisturizer, tinted lip oil and highlighter balm.

Named after N’Diaye’s mother, Ami Colé was founded as a response to the lack of clean, non-toxic products specifically formulated for melanin-rich skin. In fact, one in 12 products marketed to Black women contains harmful ingredients that disrupt the endocrine system. “Ami Colé exists to sharpen the focus on those who have been in the peripheral of beauty’s global narrative for centuries, N’Diaye explains.

The brand’s Skin-Enhancing Tint arrives in six shades designed to match the undertones found in melanated skin. Formulated with baobab seed, hibiscus and pumpkin seed extract, the product’s lightweight finish hydrates skin while providing a blurring effect. The second offering in Ami Colé’s lineup, the Lip Oil Treatment adds shine and subtle color in one universally flattering shade, a rosy taupe. Lastly, the Light-Catching Highlighter is a moisturizing balm that adds golden iridescence to to the skin. Made with a translucent rather than metallic base, the balm complements darker skin tones better than more pearlescent options.
