Instagram Introduces Option To Hide Likes
Giving users more control over their online experience.
Instagram now allows users to hide public “like counts” on their posts. The app officially announced the move after months of testing the feature on select accounts, a change that left the internet divided.
“We tested hiding like counts to see if it might depressurize people’s experience on Instagram,” the Facebook-owned platform explained in a blog post. “What we heard from people and experts was that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some, and annoying to others, particularly because people use like counts to get a sense for what’s trending or popular, so we’re giving you the choice.”
To apply the feature to your posts, simply tap the three dots next to a photo of video you’ve shared and select “Hide Like Count.” To turn off likes on other users’ posts, visit the new “Posts” section in Settings and toggle “Hide Likes and View Counts.”
