Billie Eilish Bids Farewell to a Deadbeat Ex in "Happier Than Ever" Music Video
“I don’t relate to you, no / ‘Cause I’d never treat me this shitty.”
Billie Eilish just dropped a music video for the title track off her newly released album, Happier Than Ever. The striking visual sees Eilish lament — and quickly get over — a deadbeat ex, whom many speculate is rapper Brandon Adams.
The video begins with Eilish softy singing into a phone: “When I’m away from you / I’m happier than ever / Wish I could explain it better.” While pacing back and forth in a Regency-style, pastel pink living room, Eilish contemplates the relationship gone wrong. As the ceiling begins to leak water and the lights flicker, the clip transitions from contemplative to angry. The room floods, prompting Eilish to swim onto the roof, where she delivers the song’s triumphant end in the pouring rain: “You call me again, drunk in your Benz / Drivin’ home under the influence / You scared me to death but I’m wastin’ my breath / ‘Cause you only listen to your fuckin’ friends / I don’t relate to you / I don’t relate to you, no / ‘Cause I’d never treat me this shitty.”
