A Sneaker Enthusiast Takes Us Inside Her Self-Care and Beauty Routine

Jess Gavigan shows us her current beauty faves, including a very stylish leopard print razor.

With an impressive collection of highly coveted trainers, Jess Gavigan (AKA @juicegee on Instagram) may be known as a sneakerhead, but the London-based digital creator is also someone who can talk for hours on end about her beauty philosophy and self-care tips. A firm believer that beauty should be about feeling comfortable in one’s own skin, the style enthusiast keeps a simple, low-maintenance routine that enhances her natural beauty. She also prioritizes me time, allowing herself to enjoy calming rituals from doing gua sha to journaling every day. As Gavigan summarizes it, “Beauty isn’t just wearing makeup or having a good skincare routine, it’s a feeling.”

In the latest installment of HYPEBAE‘s Beauty Essentials series, Gavigan talks to us about her definition of beauty while giving us a glimpse inside her toiletry bag. Read about her favorite products, including Venus’ special-edition Leopard Razor, below.

Jess Gavigan’s Beauty Essentials

REN Global Protection Day Cream: It’s super light and moisturizing, and it smells good too. I have sensitive skin, so I try to use products that work well with my skin type.

Simple Protect ‘n’ Glow Radiance booster SPF 30: I love this product and always use it before I head out. It is super light and not too oily. It also gives you the ultimate shine and protects your skin at the same time.

Venus Comfortglide Coconut Plus Olay Special Edition Leopard Razor: I love the leopard print handle of this razor. It’s super cute and it makes me smile when I shave. The coconut scent is also amazing.

Lush Honey Trap Lip Balm: I am obsessed with Lush. Their products are great. This particular lip balm is my favorite — it’s always floating around in my bag. It smells good and has a nice texture when applied on your lips. It’s relatively thick so it feels moisturizing.

Glossier Boy Brow: I don’t wear makeup on a day-to-day basis, but I do like to do my brows to give my face some structure. Boy Brow is my favorite. It’s super small so you can take it anywhere.

What does beauty mean to you? Has that changed from when you’re younger to now being an adult?

Beauty to me is being comfortable in your own skin. When you are, you exude confidence. Beauty isn’t just wearing makeup or having a good skincare routine, it’s a feeling. It’s doing whatever makes you shine.

When I was younger, I was always copying everyone else, trying to keep up with trends, plucking my eyebrows too thin, wearing garish eyeshadow and caking on layers of foundation to fit an ideal of what I thought was “beautiful.” As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learnt to accept my face and body as they are — to love myself and all my curves, wrinkles, etc. To do what suits me and not what suits others. Strip back.

I’m all about accentuating natural beauty. I like earthy tones, a little bit of bronze and shimmer. A good, clear shiny lip in the day, and a nude or brown lip in the evening.

Walk us through your body care routine. How do you take care of skin from the neck down?

My body care routine is simple. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Honestly, I couldn’t stress it enough. I collect rocks from beaches when I’m away to use in the shower. In my opinion, exfoliation is key to great-looking skin. Then I moisturize every day.

Drinking lots of water is also very, very important. Hydration is key! In the morning when I wake up, I tap my muscles to promote blood flow and do some light stretching. I also use a gua sha tool on my neck collar bone area for lymphatic drainage.

Finally, Venus razors help keep my skin silky and smooth, making me feel fresh and ready to take on the day. I’m all about the tropical vibes — I’m a beach/sun baby at heart, and one of my favorite things about the Venus Special Edition Leopard Razor has got to be the coconut scent.

What are some habits you try to incorporate into your daily life to practice self-care?

I love doing my morning skincare and gua sha routine. I work out, do stretching exercises and have a smoothie — these three are probably my favorite things to do in the morning. Exercise is important for my self-care routine and mental health. I love being active and being outdoors.

I try to journal every day. It can be quite hard and time-consuming at times, but I really find this helps me to decompress.

Do something at least once a day for yourself: read a chapter of a book, go for a cycle, have a bath, listen to a podcast, do a face mask or watch a movie. Rest is just as important as being productive or proactive.
