BLACKPINK's Jennie Makes an Appearance in Grimes' "Shinigami Eyes" Visual

UPDATE (January 27, 2022): Grimes has dropped her newest single titled “Shinigami Eyes.” The track comes with a futuristic music video guest starring BLACKPINK‘s Jennie.

Directed by Brthr, the visual features references from Japanese manga and anime series Death Note. As for the artists’ outfits, Grimes is seen in a custom-made nude scale-print, lit-up bodysuit by Asher Levine, while Jennie is dressed in a bright pink Candy Moto Biker Jacket created by the same designer.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, Grimes spoke about her latest song and said: “This is the label executive decision song. I love the record, but it’s just like, everyone’s like, what’s the deeper meaning? And it’s like, well, Nino Angelo just really had just watched Death Note and really liked it.” She added: “Basically, I wrote the whole space opera thing and this is the only song that wasn’t this big narrative plot. Anyway, I actually do really like the song. Sorry, I’m just undermining the marketing strategy.”

ORIGINAL STORY (January 25, 2022): Following multiple teasers, Grimes has revealed that her upcoming single, “Shinigami Eyes,” will feature BLACKPINK‘s Jennie.

The Canadian artist took to Instagram to tease the track’s music video with a cameo from the K-pop star. The futuristic visual showcases the “Player of Games” singer levitating in space and taking a selfie with Jennie — who is dressed in a crystal petal bra by David Koma under a red jacket and matching pants — in another scene. Quick snippets of blood-red eyes looking into the camera are shown, which is a reference to Japanese manga and anime series Death Note.

Watch the 23-second preview above. “Shinigami Eyes” will drop on January 26 at 12 p.m. EST.
